Patients, podcasts and websites oh my!

Why do I (or many of us) subject ourselves to years of studying, exams, long hours and debt!  Being an international medical graduate has had its challenges. I continue to face it day to day as I try to get into a residency program in Canada/US. It hasn’t worked out for several years now since graduating from medical school. The only thing that keeps me going is clinical medicine and unique amazing patient cases. Medicine why do I love thee so much? My addiction, my pain, my fascination.

When it is out of my reach, when I hear many many many NOs I am drawn to it more.

Some interesting patients from the past few weeks:

  • Hidradenitis suppurativa
  • Upper GI bleed, pt who drank a whole bottle of vodka on an empty stomach, now vomiting blood and passing bloody stools
  • Geographic tongue
  • Cervical rib
  • Noonan syndrome
  • Classic interstitial cystitis

Listening to podcasts while driving to work are awesome. It keeps me up to date in medicine. I use the Castbox app. It finally stopped crashing and misbehaving. Really like the CMAJ podcasts. Today’s topic was on the Zika virus! I was quite clueless about it.
